# Teia / Hic et Nunc

Hic et Nunc (Latin for “here and now”), later continued by the community as Teia, was the foundational open marketplace that first revealed Tezos as a serious home for digital art. Launched in 2021, it offered low-cost, permissionless minting that democratized access and fostered an experimental, often radical community. When its original frontend vanished, the community’s resurrection of the platform as Teia became a landmark demonstration of decentralized resilience: the spirit of “here and now” preserved through collective stewardship.
